New Delhi

New Delhi… A diverse, colorful, enigmatic and bursting metropole that smells like cooking fires, tropical flowers, pollution, animals, sewage, incense , … To most people a shocking experience at first sight, other fall in love with it!  This city counts almost 19 million souls and is divided in 2 very different cities. New Delhi with grand buildings, large green  boulevards, villa’s, expensive cars, fancy shops, distinguised people and (Old) Delhi with a contrast than couldn’t be less significant!  Beggars, child beggars, people living in the streets, garbage on every corner, bazars,…  But in a way I preferred Old Delhi because it felt a lot more authentic and real.

When you say Delhi, you obviously say Gandhi! A visit to Mahatma Gandhi’s house was a must & so was a visit to the house of his grand-daughter & former president of India, Indira Gandhi. Other things I did was the huge Red Fort, the mosk with an amazing view of the city & the bazars when climbing in the tower. I was lucky enough to do this by sunset.  My last stop was the beautiful and very unique site of Qutub Minar, 16km south-west of the city center.

Just came across your blog. Would like to correct something, Indira Fandhi, the former prime minister of India was not grand -daughter of Mahatma Gandhi. She was grand-daughter of Nehru, the first prime minister of India.
